This is what I'm working on right now, my Stenhouse Fusion is parked for a couple more weeks, Larbre Competition's Art Car from Le Mans this year.
I love this livery. I know many wont, but I do. The artist painted it on the car on a base the car was wrapped in. Then it was removed and turned into a vinyl wrap....so the spares could be done too, then re applied to the car. Also, its glow in the dark....seeing that live at night at Le Mans would of been very cool.
So onto the build. Start point is Revell's very nice Corvette C7R. Unfortunately the car is the 2014 configuration where as the kit decals are of the 2016 car, so if you want to build the car on the box...you need to make some changes. Luckily for me, Corvette Racing gets the newer versions of the car and Larbre looks to have a 2014/5 car, so no areo updates or roof hatch need to be added. The parts count on this kit is low, 64 if memory serves, so much of the interior is hidden, as is the engine, but for this build that's ok, this ones all about the art work.
Base kit:
Decals are from Patto's Place and are a full body wrap. Normally I'd have Bruce do a background delete to help with alignment but with this car, that's not an option. Hopefully all lines up pretty good. I ordered a second set...just incase. Decals are en route from Australia to Canada so I have about 2 weeks to get ready for them.
Decal sample: This was an early test, the correct ones are more accurate and have the missing elements.
I've read of some horror stories of guys having some serious fitment issues with this kit during finally assembly so I pre assembled pretty much the entire kit to check and so far, so good. The tolerances are close so with paint I could have some issues so I'll be trimming things back in preparation for primer and paint then decals and clear. So far I like how it looks.
Mock up:
Mods so far, I added in the filler section to the vent opening on the hood. Sanded off the Corvette emblems off the front and rear bumpers and started drilling out holes for the rearview camera and the tow hooks. Only the hood mod can really be seen at this stage. Better pics later on.
Working all weekend, so not sure how much I'll get done, but I'll try to get to primer at least. I am an idiot tho, in the above pic, I glued the doors in place and then realized I forgot to add in the Leader Light system to the doors. I've had to pry them off the body and clean them up. I got really lucky and didnt damage anything. For those that aren't sports car racing fans and dont know what the Leader Light system is, I'll explain. Each car has 3 lights on the side. If you're in first place in class, 1 light is lite up, 2 for 2nd and 3 for 3rd...outside of the top 3, no lights for you. Simple but necessary especially at night around a large track like Le Mans where it can be pretty dark away from the grand stands.
Thanks for looking, and comments and criticisms always welcome and appreciated.
