I am stoked about the new changes! Elliott in the 9 and Byron in the 24. I think that will be a good fresh change at Hendrick. Maybe when JJ retires they will bring back the 5 or 25....kidding Reyst, but really do you ever want anyone else in the 48?? It is something to ponder.

Wonder why they did not have Chase use the number #9 earlier ?

I assume something to do with the drivers already established and not wanting to upset 24 fans. This is just the perfect storm.

Maybe they should change the #88 to the #5 or #25. Would be nice to keep those historic HMS numbers on a car.

Wonder why they did not have Chase use the number #9 earlier ? Probably because the "9" was unavailable. If I recall Petty owned the rights to the number and offered to sell it to Rick in late 2015, but by that point HMS Marketing had already begun working with the 24 number. The number went back to NASCAR once Petty didn't renew it which is why Rick was able to secure it for 2018
