Johnson donor kit. Reystdawgs nose conversion. Following some tow from the forum on adding your own side skirts. Think I'm about done sanding and ready for primer.

Thanks guys- appreciate your help thus far! Overall I'm happy with the white. Just Rustoleum Gloss White. Figured it's cheaper than buying smaller cans, especially since I have a couple white cars coming up. Think I can get away with a little sanding on the nose to get it fixed without stripping it. Anybody else have thoughts on whether to paint the red or use the JWTBM red decals?

Paint the red. I tried using the red when I did mine (diecast) and they didn't fit right, and wrinkled really bad even after using lots of solvaset. Painting ended up being so much easier and looked a lot better.

Thanks. Had to strip it. Primer and paint came off resin but struggling with body even after Easy Off and Goof Off. Suggestions?

Dunked 'er this morning. Crossing my fingers a 24 hour bath does the trick. Unfortunately there's re-puttying to be done and skirts to be fixed

No luck. Think the Goof Off was too strong. Etched the plastic but didn't help with paint. May just start with a new body

Stoney, I've seeN some of your elite diecast and read the how-to on disassembly. Is it fairly easy? Debating going that rout- working on a diecast for the 2014 winner anyway

Diecast is the only way to go, especially for new cars because it ends up cheaper than getting a donor chassis, resin body, and decals. Just go with diecast. Diecast is also a lot more forgiving if you screw up.

Give LA'S Totally Awesome a try, you can find it at Family Dollar around $3, it has worked pretty good for me on some paints...

Thanks, will check it out. Purple Power and several coats of Easy Off Heavy Duty did the trick on the 2001. Think something etched the plastic on this build. Haven't started back on this one yet.

Well, after severa coats of Easy Off, some Goof Off (which etched the plastic), a 24 hour bath in Purple Power, who knows how much putty and sanding, I've salvaged the same body I started with. Lots of primer and more sanding. One coat of Testors Gloss White so far. Little sanding to be done but all things considered, I'm pleased. The most suspect areas are the skirts that will end up black and the areas that will be red. Hopefully I can wrap it up this week. Haven't decided if I'll detail the seat with padding and belts or just add the driver.

Opted to try the decals rather than paint the red since I ran into issues last time around, didn't want to risk messing up a good paint job so far. Will have a little touch up work to do but I'm pleased.
