I think you will find the majority of builders use decals as opposed to painting.

Mount the tire so the smooth side is facing out, and use decals.

I think you will find the majority of builders use decals as opposed to painting. Flip the tires. The raised letters arent accurate on the nascar tires. Decals are the way to go or if you have a stencil you can airbrush them, but decals are a lot easier.

Thanks for the advice. I would use decals but, this model came without tire decals and has the raised letters on both sides. I'll look for replacement tires and decals.

You can trim off the raised letters with a sharp hobby knife. Take your time and go slowly. Then sand sidewall with 3600 or 4000 sandpaper. Use acrylic gloss clear on sidewall. May take a few coats to get a smooth sidewall. Apply decals and when dry, cover with acrylic clear flat.
Do not use enamel paint on rubber tires as it will never dry.

When i used to paint tire lettering, i used white acrylic paint. It actually sticks to the rubber tire.
