If you have a body supply shop near you you could use 3M Fine line tape. Used in the auto world for taping cars. I have used this and Tamiya tape, both are great. Fine Line tape is thicker but has a much sharper edge. I paint both big and small cars. I do restorations as a side line. Cuts into my model building.

Chris Reyst does awesome on roof rails. I have several that he has done for my 2007 collection and they are spot on and look great. He would be a good one to ask on tips for doing them as well.

Tamiya is the best and I get it from ebay. I have 2mm, 3mm and 6mm. The 2 and 3mm is great for curves. Very thin so paint edge is not an issue. Easy to pull up and reapply to get that curve just right.
